Trip Insurance

WHY PURCHASE TRIP INSURANCE?Motor Vessel David B in Alaska

Trip insurance is one of the simplest ways to protect your travel investment. Life is unpredictable—illnesses, injuries, travel delays, family emergencies, and unexpected events can all interfere with your ability to travel.

Trip insurance not only covers the cost of your trip, but also covers emergency medical, evacuation, and repatriation. And yes, if you travel outside the USA, you are also covered internationally.

Life derails plans more often than people expect

Most travel claims happen a few days prior to departure—right when you’ve already paid for everything and have no refund options. The most common disruptors include:

  • Sudden illness or injury (you, a family member, or a travel companion)
  • Weather delays and missed connections
  • Job loss
  • Jury duty
  • Death of a grandparent or immediate family member
  • Traffic accidents on the way to the airport

When should I purchase Trip Insurance?

Your most seasoned travelers will tell you to purchase trip insurance immediately, after your initial deposit. Not only do you want to be covered sooner than later but obtaining trip insurance within 20 days of initial deposit assures you coverage for pre-existing conditions. This is of value to people with ongoing health concerns (knee, ankle, back to name a few).

What should I insure?

With trip insurance you can insure just your tour with Northwest Navigation or you can buy insurance for your entire trip. The best practice is to insure the total cost of AIR, HOTEL and your TOUR with Northwest Navigation.

Notice: When buying insurance for Air, Hotel, and Tour, your trip dates would be the day you leave home until the day you return home. This gives your door-to-door coverage. Not only for the cost of your trip, but also full medical, including evacuation.

Best Options:

  • Travel Choice – A cost effective way to insure trips with at total expense of $10K per a traveler (not available in all states).
  • Travel SE – The most popular policy. Available in all states.
  • Trave LX – The most comprehensive product on the market, including benefits for high elevation, search and rescue and enhanced coverage limits.

Pre-Existing Condition Waiver:

Please note: to have coverage for pre-existing conditions you must purchase the policy within 20 days of initial deposit.

Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR):  This is an option upgrade offered when you purchase the trip insurance policy – this allows a person to cancel for ANY REASON and receive 75% of the insured trip cost. Notice, Any Reason, generally means a non-covered reason such as I don’t want to go, I have a wedding I want to attend, My dog doesn’t want me to leave, I better just stay home and work. Optional rider is Not available in NY.
